My Name is Jesus, Son of Sapphias
Chapter 1: Birth and Lineage
I was born in Tiberias, a thriving city on the Sea of Galilee. My father, Sapphias, was a respected figure, known for his wisdom and leadership. He made sure I learned our traditions, studied the Torah, and understood the ways of both governance and warfare.

Though Tiberias was full of life and wealth, it was also a city of unrest. The influence of Rome loomed over us, and despite the city's being built in honor of Emperor Tiberius by Herod Antipas, many of our people resented the foreign rulers. From a young age, I watched my father navigate the tension between our people and the Romans. It was a lesson that would stay with me my whole life.
Chapter 2: The Rise of Rebellion
As I grew older, I could no longer ignore the suffering of our people. The heavy taxes, the disregard for our customs, and the oppression by the Roman governors and their collaborators pushed many of us to consider resistance.
In those years, I became a leader among the people of Tiberias. They looked to me for guidance, and I, having no love for the Romans, stood with them. I gathered a group of men, ready to fight back against the tyranny we’d lived under for far too long. Together, we swore to protect our city and our people from foreign oppression.
Chapter 3: The Seizure of the Fortress
Tiberias was a city of strength, with fortresses meant to protect the ruling class. I saw a chance to turn these fortifications to our advantage. With my men, I took control of the fortress, and we used it as a base for our resistance.

The city was divided. Some feared Roman punishment, while others cheered for us. But I knew that if we wanted to secure our freedom, we had to act quickly and boldly. We drove out the Roman loyalists and took control of Tiberias. For a time, it was ours again.
Chapter 4: Josephus and the Betrayal
It was during this time that I met a man who would become a pivotal figure in our struggle, Josephus, son of Matthias. He was a learned man, skilled in strategy and leadership, and he too claimed to fight for the cause. However, it quickly became clear to me that his goals were not the same as mine.
Josephus came to Tiberias claiming to support us, but his true ambition was power. He wanted to rule Galilee and saw me as a threat to his own rise. Our paths soon crossed, and we found ourselves in opposition.
Chapter 5: The Fall of Tiberias
Josephus, backed by a larger army and those who favored peace with Rome, eventually came to Tiberias. Though I had fortified my position, his forces were overwhelming. Through trickery and force, he broke my hold over the city.
My men scattered, and the fortress fell. I was forced to retreat, leaving behind the city I had tried so hard to free. Josephus declared victory, but it wasn’t for the people, it was for his own power. In time, he too would bow before Rome’s might.
Defeated, I wandered from place to place, seeking refuge among others who still fought against Rome. But the tide was turning, and it seemed like the empire’s hold was growing stronger. The great war was near, and soon enough, Jerusalem would fall, and our people would be scattered.
I do not know how history will remember me, whether as a rebel, a hero, or just another casualty of war. What I do know is that I fought for my people, for their freedom and dignity.
My name is Jesus and may fade with time, but the spirit of what we fought for will remain in the land I once called home...
